To achieve something you've never had before,
You must do something you've never done before!!!
Week 9&10

On the ninth and tenth week, it was not a peak period and I thought these two weeks would be easy and relax throughout this internship. However, Ms. Linda, my supervisor assigned to complete two tasks within one week which were recording the staffs’ annual leaves form from Jan 2014 to February 2015 and calculating the total monthly Labourers over time (OT) payments and number of hours. The reason why Ms. Linda assigned me to handle these tasks is because she wants them urgently and yet the person who is responsible for this work has gone for long leave. Therefore, I have earned an opportunity to participate into this work individually. It would be very tough and stressful for me as there are lots of staffs’ annual leave forms that I was required to record. However, I am a person who is willing to accept challenging task and hence, this can considered as an exciting task for me.
For the first task, Ms Linda passed me a file and a pen-drive. In the file, it consists of the application forms regarding about the staffs leaves. For the pen-drive, there is a Microsoft Excel file which consists of a table template which has been created by my senior previously. Before she pass this task to me, Ms. Linda had briefed me for about 10 minutes in order to make me understand what were the steps of key in the data as it was easy to make mistake if I do not follow the steps. Hence, I rearrange those forms according to the name and alphabetical order so that is it easier for me to capture the forms into the excel sheet.
On the other task, Ms. Linda passed a lot of Indonesian labourers’ punch cards for me to calculate the total payments and hours for OT. The first step is exactly same as the previous task which is arranging the punch cards according to names and different workplaces. Once I calculated the OT payments and working hours, I will prove to myself that the work has been done correctly by checking the work twice before I hand it to my senior.
In these two weeks, I have learnt something important and helpful in my future. I realised that I should always set targets for myself in order to achieve goals in a more efficient and effective way. With the target I set for myself, I was able to accomplish with two of these tasks in three days despite that I was given five days to complete. Because of this, my efficiency in work has impressed my supervisor. I felt thankful to my supervisor for giving me this opportunity to participate in this individual work. It enabled me to understand that goal setting could help me to build up strong concentration on work and improve my working progress. However, my supervisor also pointed out on my weaknesses. She told me that I need improvement on my accountability part. This is because I always I did not approach her after I done with my work and I will only submit the work to her when she ask about it. Hence, this lesson has taught me to be a more responsible person.
